Set a privacy passphrase
Your workspace is already encrypted at rest. A passphrase adds a lock only you can open, so even our staff can't read your notes.
We can't reset it for you. If you forget the passphrase, your recovery key is the only way back. Without one, locked notes stay locked.
Turn it on
Step 1: In Sondeas, open Settings, then Privacy & security.
Step 2: Under Private workspace, choose Turn on passphrase.
Step 3: Type a passphrase, then type it again. A few unrelated words work well; Sondeas tells you if it's too easy to guess.
Step 4: Save your recovery key somewhere safe, away from this device. We show it once. Then choose I've stored it.
Step 5: Keep Sondeas open while it applies the passphrase to your library. You'll see how many notes are done.
What changes after
- Titles stay visible. Note text, transcripts and audio need your passphrase.
- Sondeas asks for it on new devices and after you've been idle. Choose when it locks: when you close Sondeas, or after a set time idle.
- Signing out also locks your workspace on that device.
- Ask can't read locked notes until you unlock.
- To export locked notes, type your passphrase in the export screen.
Change it or turn it off
Choose Change passphrase and type the current one, then the new one twice. Your other devices ask for the new one right away.
Choose Turn off passphrase to remove it. Your notes stay encrypted at rest, but anyone signed in to your account can read them, and your recovery key is deleted.
